Volunteering at Child & Family Services
You Are Needed!
Each day volunteers throughout Western New York use their time and talents to touch
the lives of others in our community " how about you" Make a difference
in your life and the lives of others by becoming a volunteer today! Here are just
some of the much-needed volunteer opportunities at Child & Family Services:
- Work in the "Peace Garden" at our domestic violence shelter by performing
seasonal planting and landscaping.
- Provide "respite" care to a family by providing a break for both the child
and the parents.
- Teach yoga or relaxation to residents of our domestic violence shelter.
- Help cook meals for residents at our domestic violence shelter.
- Work with children by assisting with outings, field trips, arts & crafts activities
and in the playroom and in play groups.
- Assist and advocate for victims involved in filing Family Offense Petitions in Family
Court.
- Help in "Toyland" at our domestic violence shelter by unloading, organizing
and arranging donations to our toy cupboard (requires some lifting).
- Help clients select reliable vehicles to purchase and/or conduct pre-site visits
to automobile sales and repair facilities (requires auto mechanic experience).
- Assist in a children"s group with victims of domestic violence.
- Work in an IRS-approved VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site (no experience
needed " will receive free IRS tax preparation training).
- Oversee an IRS-approved VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site (must have an
accounting or related background).
- Stock and maintain the "Career Clothing Boutique" at our domestic violence
shelter.
- Work with victims, offenders and the community by serving as a facilitator of Victim-Offender
Conferencing/Dialogue sessions (will receive training, requires one-year commitment
for approximately 3 " 12 hours per month).
- Assist in the Emergency Food Pantry by preparing food bags, re-stocking shelves,
organizing freezer and distributing food.
- Read to children in a classroom and/or assist with classroom activities.
- Help in our Adopt-a-Family Christmas Program by adopting a family or donating, wrapping
and/or delivering gifts.
- Assist with special events and activities on an "as needed basis".
- Work with victims, low-level offenders and the community by serving as a facilitator
of Victim-Offender Conferences, Crime Impact Classes, and/or Shoplifting Prevention
Groups. Training provided.
- Assist in the collection of outcomes and client testimonies for Ways to Work Loan
Programs. Training provided.
