In 2007, just a year after they were married, Lisa and Shaun contacted Child and
Family Services to learn about opening their home and their hearts to children in
need of a safe and loving home. The young, newlywed couple had full time jobs, volunteered
in their community, and spent a great deal of time with family and friends.
However, Lisa and Shaun always felt that something was missing. After learning about
what Child and Family Services’ Foster Care and Adoption Programs had to offer,
they made the decision to pursue adoption. “A ‘forever family’ is a beautiful gift,
both for the kids as well as the families that adopt them,” explains Lisa. They
enjoyed taking the MAPP/GPS training and completed the certification process in
September 2007. Within a few weeks, the couple met with Child & Family Services
staff and learned about DeAndre, just shy of two years old, who was desperately
in need of a nurturing and stable family.
